Genable was launched in September 2004 following a successful round of venture capital investment led by Dublin based Delta Partners (www.delta.ie)
The Company is located at the Smurfit Institute of Genetics, Trinity College Dublin where the current pre-clinical studies are under completion
The company's first applications are focused on treatments for the "dominant-negative" disorders, retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and osteogenesis imperfecta.
The dominant-negative disease market represents an un-tapped multi-billion euro market primarily under-developed due to a lack of appropriate technology. Genable now opens this entirely new market through a patented proprietary approach which removes significant technological barriers of entry.
Genable's objective is to provide a gene based therapeutic technology for the treatment of dominant-negative diseases estimated to account for almost a third of all Mendelian disorders. The current market for treating RP, in which no current therapies exist, is valued at approximately €3.5 billion.
Genable's business focus is on the application of its platform technology to specific in-house programmes in orphan diseases with the goal of generating revenue by out-licensing the drugs at a later stage of clinical development. Genable's platform technology is additionally available for immediate out-licensing for a number of attractive therapeutic opportunities including p53 related cancer.
